It's Been Awhile

Wow! It certainly has been awhile since I posted.  Since the last posting there has been a couple of job shuffles and other things. Whew. Still trying to work out the Hollywood thing.  My life is like GROUND HOG'S DAY and SWIMMING WITH SHARKS on a daily basis, but I still love the movie biz.

Cataclismic Changes

My bestfriend recently told me that she's going to move up her wedding b/c her fiance is being transfered to the Tokyo office.  She's the first really close friend to get married.  I'm so happy for her but it's also kinda freakin me out.  Don't know how to deal with the fact that we are indeed getting older every year.  Do I really have to be an adult now? Yikey!

Travel

Must say...ever since I started working in the movie biz, I haven't really traveled as much.  This year is gonna be different.  Going to go to Tahoe and SF next weekend and along with my friend getting married, we're throwing her a bachelorette party in Hawaii!  Yay!  Should probably diet beforehand if I'm even thinking about wearing a bathing suit.  Scary!

I HATE THE PHONE:  Yes, it may shock some people that I feel this way considering how much I used to love to catch up with people over the phone.  It's because I'm constantly on the phone all day long at work. Being at an agency makes you even hate the sound of a phone ringing.  When I first started, I used to think that I could hear my work phone ringing even at my house!!! Seriously, I need to get some help.  Well, if you guys haven't seen me manuver the phones, it's quite an artform.  I have two phones, one with a headset attached and the other with a regular phone receiver.  I'm rolling calls with my boss on his lines and while i'm listening to his calls on the headset and taking notes, I pick up the phone receiver and call other office to take care of setting meetings, tracking money, setting his restaurant reservations, and whatever else on my lines.  Sometimes I have all seven lines ringing and I have take care of all of them in a one minute time frame.  No wonder everyone who works in this biz are so frazzled.  Everthing is a damn emergency. yuck.

Awkward Nation:  Why are guys so damn awkward?  I do not understand.  Maybe it's because I'm usually really straight forward and I try to speak what's on my mind in a diplomatic way. While most men claim that women are so complicated and men are simple, that is such a lie. Men are just as complicated and from what other guys have told me, they gossip just as much or even more than women. hah!

Screen Saver Mode: I'm officially on screensaver mode.  I do not want to do anything and all I think about is the Christmas break.  It's going to be a long two and half weeks.  Sigh.

Christmas Shopping:  Christmas is just around the corner, yet I'm not even close to being finished with buying gifts.  I haven't even started writing Christmas cards yet. Sigh. Those take forever...maybe I won't do them this year...I'm getting so lazy.

Long Weekend:  I had a great time this Thanksgiving holiday.  I probably ate way too much and wasn't very active, but it was relaxing and fun at the same time.  Thanksgiving day was great.  I got to sleep in while my parents went golfing and brought back breakfast.  After lounging around, I played cards with my parents and sis.  And yes, I lost all of my money to Janet. hehe.    And of course, b/c there's only four of us, we ate our traditional Thanksgiving chicken.

LA Public Transit:  Yes, my friend and I thought that it would be fun to take the public transit on Friday. So we decided to take the subway downtown and go to Olivera Street.  I didn't realize that people in LA actually took the subway.  I was actually having fun b/c it kind of made me think that I was back in DC or NYC or something.  Of course, there are not nearly enough stops to make the subway convenient in LA.  Olivera Street was fun b/c my friend and I drank a whole pitcher of strawberry margarita at 1 in the afternoon.  Woohoo! There's nothing like getting a buzz in the middle of the weekday! LOL. Afterwards, we walked to Little Tokyo to eat shaved ice. Now this isn't something that I would do all the time, but it was interesting.

Sisterly Bonding:  A very strange thing happened on Saturday evening.  My sister actually wanted to go the movies.  Usually, I have to beg her to drag her lazy bum to see a movie.  Since I'm always up for watching a movie, we set out to see National Treasure.  Of course, this is certainly not an oscar contender, but it's amusing.  You definitely get what you expect from the film: two hours of entertainment.  Plus, if you like US history you'll like it.  And yes, since it has the Disney label, there will be very cheesy and corny lines but you gotta watch it for what it is.

Lessons Learned:  Here are some things that I learned over this holiday weekend:

1. LA actually has a public transit system, and it's actually quite interesting to try it out once in awhile.

2. Irvine is not 15 minutes away from Cerritos no matter how clear the roads are.  Just another example of my inability to determine distance and direction.

3. Having a boyfriend or a girlfriend make people do really strange things.  I've given up on trying to figure out the recent actions of some my friends and colleages.

4. I have a serious shoe fetish.  Really need to stop buying shoes since I've purchased four pairs of shoes within the past two weeks.

5. The year is almost over and I need to keep an upbeat attitude towards work or else it's going to be hard getting through the next three weeks! Sigh.

Awaiting the Holidays:  Yes, I am sooooooo looking forward to the Thanksgiving holidays.  It's literally like a week away.  Woohoo.  Of course, I'm just glad that it's the holidays but at the same time, it kind of makes me wonder how 2004 has passed by so quickly.  I guess as you get older, time just flies.

Christmas Shopping:  I refuse to fall into last year's predicament.  I basically waited until the very last minute to buy gift and had to run around like a chicken with it's head cut off.  I am determined to do all of my shopping early, over the Internet and have it delivered to me.  Gotta love modern technology.  I started ordering stuff this week.  Yay!  At this rate, I should be done by the end of November!

The Fall Glum:  I'm into the uber reflective mode lately.  I gues if you're going to get all reflective fall is the time to do it.  I feel really tired and I don't want to do anything.  I don't wanna go out on the weekends.  I just kind of want to hang out at home alone and just do things alone (i.e. read scripts, books, watch movies and surf the Net).  Am I being antisocial or just is this normal?  I guess I had my dose of craziness in Korea.  Not only that, but my job makes me deal with so many people all the time.  It's good to have my own time.

Travel:  I wish I could travel again in the near future.  I think with my temperment, I need to go someplace every two or three months, which I think is perfectly fine.     I wonder where I should go next...

Vacation Euphoria:  So my vacation euphoria has now completely disappeared.  And yes, things are very much back to normal.  AHHH!!! so how many more days before Thanksgiving?  Lately, I've been setting mental x's on the days that are over.  It's kind of like being in prison right?  All I know is that if my boss keeps going out with two specs and a pitch every week, I may go absolutely bonkers.

Drinks:  So I try to do drinks at least two or three times after work.  Ahhh, man, I cannot drink on the weekdays like i used.  My body immediately punishes me the day after.  Sad right?  Another sign that I am getting old. Sigh.

Holiday Shopping:  All I know is that I should start thinking about buying gifts.  I hate waiting until the last minute b/c everyone then gets their gifts in January. hehe.  That means I need to start saving money so I'll have enough to spend over the holidays.

Craziness at Work:  So I spent the whole day dealing with the spec and on top of that I had to figure out getting production start gifts for some of our clients.  Because the project is related to a southern hick flick, my boss thought it would be cute to get each person a bottle of Jack Daniels and straw hats.  So here I am, trying to deal with the calls related to the spec and on the other line I'm asking someone how much straw hats and JD cost.  The funniest was when the mailroom person delivered the goods.  I looked kind of fishy with five bottles of JD and straw hats cluttered with work on my desk.  Yeah.  It was that kind of day!
